At age 44, and as a mother of four school-aged children (ages 12, 8, 7, and 5), I have decided to go back to college to get a Bachelor’s degree in physics. My first college degree was in creative writing and English literature (with honors) from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1989. My new alma mater is the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I hope to earn a B.S. in Physics by the time I’m 50. I am a huge Feynman fangirl and it was time to see if I could really follow way behind his footsteps.
It’s never too late to start your life.
Special thanks to my friend George M. Felis, who encouraged me to start this blog to document my progress through the reprinted 2009 edition of The Boy Scientist.
9 November 2011 UPDATE: I am halfway through my first semester of classes, and my projected graduation date is the spring of 2016. That should be a month or so before I turn 49.
24 December 2011 UPDATE: first semester complete, g.p.a. = 4.0
18 May 2012 UPDATE: second semester complete, g.p.a. = 4.0
31 December 2012 UPDATE: third semester incomplete, g.p.a. = 4.0
(I withdrew from Physics 180 and took an Incomplete in Math 253, but got an A in Physics 190.)
